Hello.
My friend and I are developing a facebook game. We are both experienced programmers and have worked on many projects in the past. We are tapping into the facebook game wave at the moment, and need a dedicated full time artist to help us get running. I'll try to be as clear and honest as possible, as well as detailed. This isn't a "Hey buddies, let's be Blizzard" concept. We know the realities of game life.
First off, we do know what we are doing. Both programmers are adults and have many years of project and programming experience. We already have a great deal of content done. And a majority of the game engine has been assembled. However we need to get an artist soon, or we are going to be lacking in art quickly. The game *at minimum* needs someone to draw 1 specific style of art, examples of which I'll show below. However... if we could get someone who wanted to do items (armors, weapons, supplies, etc) and GUI elements, either as well, or as additional person, it certainly wouldn't hurt.
This game is part 1 of 3 of changing the way FB games are being presented. We are bringing some very interesting game theory and play elements to the platform in this release. This game however is a QUICK proof of concept. It is our intention to go alpha (beta??? maybe...... if it goes really well) by around January of 2010. Content would then be continually released as the game goes live. With a fast, quality artist, we could go beta in december and RC by Jan.
Following on it's heels... Phase 2 will be version 2 of our engine which is a proprietary server we have written for live game engine processing through facebook. This technology will allow us to do some very amazing things on Facebook. We are not starting with this however, as this game will need to provide us some income before we pour time into that.
Phase 3... well that's top secret! But the right girl/guy will get to be a part of it if they become a permanent team member.
This game pays very close attention to game theory, player psychology, and game mechanics. We have both studied these concepts in depth, and are college educated with majors in Game Design and Programming. On top of that, we have a strong fundamental grasp of game business models, and will be developing this game to provide a steady income stream for the (then) company. Of course at that point, there would be compensation if you decided to work with us further, however we are all doing this with the lint in our pockets until we can get that revenue in. (We realistically expect to be able to able to pay out around April of 2010 ), however again, we could see good money much quicker with the right team.
That's the foundation. The concept requires someone who can create some background art for the game. Essentially the game artist would create a background, which then gets processed by our engine. The artist only has to draw the 1 layer.. we handle the rest through code. Below I'll show you an example that we are using to test our engine:
The Size and General Style of our Background:

The artist would need to get VERY close to that style. We need 2-3 islands for alpha, and around 5 for beta, min 10-15 for release. Each island would have it's own style... snow, fire, forest, lava, whatever.... Mainly it's up to you. We don't really have a set style each island must be, our code can flex to the style. Island size can change, but general size is going to be around that or larger.
Please let us know. If this is your style and quality, we would love to see samples and talk to you.
Thank you!
